My friend and colleague, Marina Gijzen, sent me an excellent article from the Globe and Mail which was originally published on August 28th, 2012. The article essentially sums up research related to the importance of keeping our bodies active and that our ability to be innovative and to better learn is greatly enhanced by getting out and moving. Sure we have heard this over and over in the past, but it is an important point for all teachers to remember and to act on.

Imagine our staff meetings, from time to time, being held in a completely different format, for example, having important discussions as we walk around the track and then sharing our ideas afterwards.

Doing so affects everything from mental health to the musculo-skeletal system to cardiovascular health and brain health.
