The next unit for us in PE is 'Movement to Music' which will be fully integrated with two grade levels (kindergarten-G1 & G4/5). In kindergarten/G1 the main theme deals with the way people can express themselves through the arts. In particular, how we can show emotion/thoughts/feelings through dance in PE. As a warm-up, preassessment activity, we are going to play ten different pieces of music from a wide variety of styles ex.- 60s music, country and western, opera, African etc.). We will play each piece for roughly two minutes allowing the kids to freely express themselves in whatever way they want (running, turning, twisting, jumping, rolling etc.). They must then connect this piece of music with some type of emotion. On the assessment sheet below, you can see the different emotions on the right side of the page. They must draw a line connecting which emotion they feel fits best......We'll see how it goes..
