What is the Sportfolio?

Picture

The "Sportfolio" is a PE type journal that I created about 9 years ago and have had my students use regularly over the years. Its main purpose is to collect peer & self assessment, written reflections, to record data to be used for graphing and other purposes in maths, and file awards and certificates from PE and Swimming.

As written reflection is a huge part of the PYP, I like to take the opportunity to have the students reflect in as many forms as they can. With the younger/ESL students, this can be achieved through drawing illustrations along with adding limited text. Illustrations with the older students work well to show conceptual understanding. At times the visual learners can better demonstrate their understanding through illustrations, so I often provide space on the reflection sheets to allow for illustrations. Please see 'Example Assessment Task' page for more student work.

Below is an assessment task completed by the students before a water polo match. The central idea of the unit focused on 'team strategy'. The students had to devise a strategy beforehand and then put it to the test in the game. After the game they had to reflect on whether or not their strategy was successful.
