Maths Integration and PE: A Perfect Match!!!

Providing living examples of math in action allows for students to make genuine and authentic connections to what they are learning in the classroom. What better arena than PE to make this a reality! I will often check to see what the classroom teachers are doing in math and when I see a perfect fit with PE, I will incorporate the current study of math into my lesson plan. Graphing, fractions, decimal points, time and measurement are just some of things that we have worked on in PE class.

This is usually done by creating opportunities for the students to partake in activities in PE  while collecting and recording data as they go. These record sheets are then brought back to their classroom teachers who can easily use the data to support their current maths unit. The completed work is then returned to the PE department to file in the Sportfolios.
